Commissions

Let me start by saying that I really enjoy working on commissions. Knowing that a piece already has a beautiful home waiting for it makes me very happy. We buy art because it makes our spaces feel warm and welcoming, and reflects the unique beauty and personalities of its inhabitants. What better way to connect to a piece of art and bring it into your home than to commission it from the start.

My commission process goes like this:

First, please send me a quick email using the form on my contact page. You can copy/paste and fill out the info below to help me get a quick understanding of your needs.

I will get back to you within three business days to set up a quick 15 minute appointment to chat on google hangout. We will use this time to discuss more about your needs and desires and answer any questions you may have. I should also be able to give you a price quote at that time.

If you decide to proceed (yay!) I will put together a contract for us both to sign. There is a 50% non-refundable deposit. I have never had anyone decide they didn’t want their painting when it was done!

Upon receipt of the signed contract and 50% deposit I will put together a digital mood board and color palette for your painting. If you have any fabric or paint swatches from your room I love to have these from the start. When you approve the color palette I get to work.

Your painting will take somewhere between 4-12 weeks to be completed. This is usually because I have other paintings in the works before I can get to yours. When I feel your painting is about 80% done I will email you some photos. This is the best time for you to provide feedback. Anything from “I’d like more blue” to “This feels too messy” to “I love it except for that one shape that reminds me of a duck” is valid. I will make changes and present it to you one more time for review/final comments. After your approval I will add finishing details and submit it for final approval before varnishing, signing, and adding hanging hardware. Unless we agree to something else, all commissions are painted on 1.5” gallery wrapped canvas or wood panel which require no frame, and are ready to be hung on the wall as soon as they arrive at your home. Depending on the size of your piece I may be able to offer in-house framing as well.

I ship paintings up to 36” x 48” via UPS. Anything larger than that has to be sent via an art shipping service. The cost to get a very large painting across the US can be up to $500, and can take several weeks depending on the art courrier’s schedule. I will let you know the shipping fees before drawing up your contract. It is also possible to create larger works on unstretched canvas and ship them rolled in a tube to your local framer, who can them stretch them onto bars for you to hang or frame as you like.
