I approach the canvas on any day with my emotions and a color palette; making marks, responding to them, covering them up, and generally creating a chaotic mess.
I am an artist and designer living in the San Francisco East Bay. My journey to painting has come full circle, starting with the encouragement of my high school art teacher, Mrs. A. In college I pursued a degree in Graphic Design, while still dabbling in the fine arts. After graduating from UC Davis I moved to San Francisco and worked as a web designer for several years. As time passed I began to miss the tactile experience of creating with my hands and started taking some floral design courses. In love with floral design I opened my own studio and spent several happy years creating floral installations for the beautiful brides of the bay area. After my two children were born I endured some health problems that left me unable to do much more than care for my boys. As I began to heal I turned again to my paints. During this time our family moved to a home with an old workshop in the backyard. I had visions of it someday being my studio, and several years later, it is.
My current work is mostly non-representational with the occasional abstract landscape. I think of my method as a reflection of the way we live our lives. I approach the canvas on any day with my emotions and a color palette; making marks, responding to them, covering them up, and generally creating a chaotic mess. At this point I step back and assess the situation. The graphic designer in me takes over, striving to create order from the disarray. I refine the composition until the result is balanced and satisfying.
There is so much in life that we cannot control. We make messes. We are given messes. We tidy them up the best we can. If we can appreciate both the process and the results, there is so much beauty to be had.
The paintings featured on this site may be for sale. Send me an email if you see something you like, or check in my Etsy shop. I will also paint something custom for you if you want a particular size or color palette. I love working with clients to get exactly the piece they’re dreaming of.
I am happy to work with other artists and bloggers. Please email me if you have an idea for a collaboration. I am especially interested in working with other local artists!
