Commissions

Let me start by saying that I enjoy working on commissions. Knowing that a piece already has a beautiful home waiting for it makes me very happy. We buy art because it makes our spaces feel warm and welcoming and it reflects the unique beauty and personalities of its collectors. What better way to connect to a piece of art and bring it into your home than to commission it from the start.

My commission process goes like this:

First, please send me a quick email using the form on my contact page. You can use the questions below to help me get a quick understanding of your needs.

What size painting do you need?

Are you on a deadline?

Delivery zip code?

Where did you find me?

Favorite painting of mine?

I will get back to you within three business days with a price quote and my current lead time.

If you decide to proceed (yay!) I will put together a contract for us both to sign. There is a 50% non-refundable deposit, with the rest due upon completion. (I have never had anyone refuse their painting when it was done, but if that were to happen - your 50% deposit can be applied to any original art on my website.)

Upon receipt of the signed contract and deposit I will put together a digital mood board and color palette for your painting. If you have any fabric or paint swatches from your room I love to have these from the start. When you approve the color palette I get to work.

Your painting will take somewhere between 4-8 weeks to be completed. In many cases I actually paint two paintings to your specifications, and you get to choose your favorite. This takes a LOT of pressure off of me, and most clients love having the choice. When I feel your painting is about 90% done I will email you some photos. You provide any feedback on changes you'd like to make. Anything from “I’d like more blue” to “This feels too messy” to “I love it except for that one shape that reminds me of a duck” is valid. I will make any requested changes and present it to you for final approval. After that I will varnish, sign, and add hanging hardware. Unless we agree to something else, all commissions are painted on 1.5” gallery wrapped canvas and come in a very simple raw maple strip frame.

I ship paintings up to 48” x 48” via UPS. Anything larger than that has to be sent via an art shipping service. The cost to get a very large painting across the US can be up to $700, and can take several weeks depending on the art courier’s schedule. I will let you know the shipping fees before drawing up your contract. It is also possible to create larger works on unstretched canvas and ship them rolled in a tube to your local framer, who can then stretch them onto bars for you to hang or frame as you like.

Please let me know if you have any questions about my commission process. I'd love to hear from you!
