Inspiration:
Are you familiar with the idea put forth by Ira Glass of “the gap”? Its when you stand on one side of a new idea with a vision of how beautiful and magical it will be when you bring it to life; but the skills you currently have fall far short of actually making that idea real. The space between you and the vision is the gap. The answer to making your idea real and beautiful and magical of course is to work and work and work until your skills match your vision. This happens in painting when I feel the need to grow my work in a new direction but have no idea how to get it there. Recently I saw a vision of misty softness in my work, but couldn’t quite see how to make it real. But I worked and worked and worked, and eventually… a door opened.
