Inspiration:
What do you do in that space between wanting and having? Or wanting and not-having? Even as the most relaxed of people I often find myself in the space of willing-it-to-be. Of doing more research and more reasoning. Of imagining scenarios and working out arguments in my head of why or how things will or should go my way. But the thing is, you can’t will something to be. From the moment its out of your hands the thing will be or it won’t. And its very similar with painting. Reasoning with myself about how to make a painting better is rarely productive. I’m much better off setting an intention and then letting it go, allowing what will be to take shape on the canvas in front of me. It’s only when I let it go that the opportunity for possibility arises, and its that possibility that takes a painting from forced to inspired.
